Model Dancer

feature-david_hallberg3.jpg

I was having dinner with David Hallberg this evening.   He is one of my closest friends,  and one of very few who people in my life who is as interested in fashion as I am.   David is really knowledgeable in many areas of the arts,  and he helps keep me aware of what is going on... as I can sometimes get lost in my own process and thoughts.     I don't do it as much as I should... but seeing the art of others is so important in my process as a designer. Anyways......  I have been reading a book that Harriet Jung gave me for graduation about Geoffrey Beene.   He was a very important American fashion designer who I plan on blogging about very soon...  Getting back on track......   Geoffrey Beene often used dancers as models for his clothes.....  and David has had the good fortune of being photographed in fashion editorials in recent years.....      Is this making any sense now?

The dancer as model is the subject for this blog.   Seeing the movement of clothing is always fascinating to me... and who better to illustrate that.... than a dancer.   Enter David...... and here we go.. Pictures.

This is a photo from L'Uomo Vogue, March 2012

By clicking on the movie still below you can view a film where David discusses the interest of dancing in real clothes.

Various Projects

img_4648.jpg

Today I visited my Friend Nicholas james Brown who does P.R. for some amazing designers....  He has a showroom set up in lower manhattan at a place called Various Projects.   Nicholas represents Walter Van Beirendonck among others.....   so I had the great pleasure of trying on several incredible outfits from the Fall 2012 Walter collection which I blogged about in January.

Hipster color Blocking

I was in Williamsburgh 2 nights ago... and passed by the window of a concept store called Moves on Graham Ave. The seamed stretch fabric garments in the window grabbed my attention... but I was rushing by... and I thought       "More craftsy hipster fashion... ugh"       so I forgot about them....  On my way back ... I did a double take... and thought,     "Maybe they are onto something".      I really looked and got excited about it...  so i instagramed this swimsuit....

so...   I've done more research.... and by googling "Williamsburgh color block swimsuit"....  I nailed it.

The designers are named. R. Mackswell Sherman and Sarah Jones, and they have a company called Ruffeo Hearts Lil Snotty... or RHLS.

...After looking through their last 2 seasons of garments, my first thought is that someone really loves sewing curved seams.... (since all the clothes have really complicated seaming)....  but there is more to it than that..   There is humor,  and interesting wearable shapes...   It looks like there is some reference to Walter Van Beirendonck.

...And the clothes are made in NY....  So go pick up your crazy high waisted mouth mini-skirt today!!!
