Various Projects

img_4648.jpg

Today I visited my Friend Nicholas james Brown who does P.R. for some amazing designers....  He has a showroom set up in lower manhattan at a place called Various Projects.   Nicholas represents Walter Van Beirendonck among others.....   so I had the great pleasure of trying on several incredible outfits from the Fall 2012 Walter collection which I blogged about in January.

Jack Ferver

Jack Ferver is one of a few extraordinary performers in New York City.  He has carved out his own niche in the world of performing arts,  bringing dance, theater, music, costume, and visual art together in a really intelligent and relevant way. I have been very lucky to count myself as one of his collaborators... working for him both as a dancer and costume designer.  I have had the great pleasure of dressing Jack in most of his work,   and am so blessed to count him as one of my dearest friends.

....  and he would be the first to tell you that we went to boarding school together.   We both attended Interlochen Arts Academy.

Here are images from some of the projects I've designed for jack

CDG

img_00021.jpg

CDG is what we call Commes des Garçon in my family.   My mother wore 1980s CDG religiously.  It was during a time when Rei Kawakubo was reimagining the plainest of garments from both european and japanese culture.   This was a time in the history of Commes des Garçon before the clothes became unbearably avant-garde,   and is what I consider to be the hay day of the label. My Mom was very good about saving much of this clothing..... and now seems to be passing the pieces onto me and my friends.   Here are some images of a few of the pieces..... and then my mom wearing them.... and lastly the next generation of people wearing them.

My Mom

img_00111.jpg

Were it not for my Mother.....   I would not have such strong interest in design.    In my opinion... my mother has impeccable taste and an extraordinary eye for aesthetics.   In a way she has been a guiding force in the worlds of fashion and interior design.   In the 1970s and 80s she worked in fashion design... and I've heard from a  number of reliable sources that she is the original designer of the "sleeping bag coat"  ... (the long down-filled puffy coat)...   and as one of the owners of the shop Ruby Beets,  she has helped in shaping the aesthetics of interior design over the last 20 years. It's amazing to think back on her wardrobe and homes over the span of my life.   She always manages to be totally current and yet totally timeless.  She has managed to avoid following short lived trends,  and has herself instigated important and lasting trends.

I suppose I am biased .... since she is my mom....  but it is her unwavering eye that gives me faith and confidence in my own design practice.

Her name is Honey Wolters..... and  here are some amazing images of her from the past few decades.[gallery link="file" columns="4" orderby="ID"]
