Some days it's hard to know what to blog about. In all my experience today it's hard to think of something relevant to Blog about. I did meet with a choreographer to go over some design development..... but I can't show you that until later. So... on a late night when i can't think of anything particularly inspiring to post... I will post an illustration from a while back. I did it in soft pencil and eyeshadow. I drew it from a photograph of a hair model...... ahhahah. It was a school project...... But it turned out soft and pretty.
CDG
CDG is what we call Commes des Garçon in my family. My mother wore 1980s CDG religiously. It was during a time when Rei Kawakubo was reimagining the plainest of garments from both european and japanese culture. This was a time in the history of Commes des Garçon before the clothes became unbearably avant-garde, and is what I consider to be the hay day of the label. My Mom was very good about saving much of this clothing..... and now seems to be passing the pieces onto me and my friends. Here are some images of a few of the pieces..... and then my mom wearing them.... and lastly the next generation of people wearing them.

My Mom
Were it not for my Mother..... I would not have such strong interest in design. In my opinion... my mother has impeccable taste and an extraordinary eye for aesthetics. In a way she has been a guiding force in the worlds of fashion and interior design. In the 1970s and 80s she worked in fashion design... and I've heard from a number of reliable sources that she is the original designer of the "sleeping bag coat" ... (the long down-filled puffy coat)... and as one of the owners of the shop Ruby Beets, she has helped in shaping the aesthetics of interior design over the last 20 years. It's amazing to think back on her wardrobe and homes over the span of my life. She always manages to be totally current and yet totally timeless. She has managed to avoid following short lived trends, and has herself instigated important and lasting trends.
I suppose I am biased .... since she is my mom.... but it is her unwavering eye that gives me faith and confidence in my own design practice.
Her name is Honey Wolters..... and here are some amazing images of her from the past few decades.[gallery link="file" columns="4" orderby="ID"]
Hipster color Blocking
I was in Williamsburgh 2 nights ago... and passed by the window of a concept store called Moves on Graham Ave. The seamed stretch fabric garments in the window grabbed my attention... but I was rushing by... and I thought "More craftsy hipster fashion... ugh" so I forgot about them.... On my way back ... I did a double take... and thought, "Maybe they are onto something". I really looked and got excited about it... so i instagramed this swimsuit....
so... I've done more research.... and by googling "Williamsburgh color block swimsuit".... I nailed it.
The designers are named. R. Mackswell Sherman and Sarah Jones, and they have a company called Ruffeo Hearts Lil Snotty... or RHLS.
...After looking through their last 2 seasons of garments, my first thought is that someone really loves sewing curved seams.... (since all the clothes have really complicated seaming).... but there is more to it than that.. There is humor, and interesting wearable shapes... It looks like there is some reference to Walter Van Beirendonck.
...And the clothes are made in NY.... So go pick up your crazy high waisted mouth mini-skirt today!!!

Time to get busy
So... its high time I put some time and thought into this website. Now that school is over and I am working as a freelance costume designer I want to start exercising my creative muscles a little every day..... so... I'm going to use this website as my own personal creativity gym.
Today I took a Cunningham class and started sourcing fabric on an upcoming piece that Lar Lubovitch is making..... and then I saw the movie "Total Recall". Nota bad day all in all.
... and now I am going to post something...
This is an illustration I did a few months ago for my Australian friend Robert Curran.
